Wise Minister of Marine in the late Bourgeois Ministry, and who now declared that 50 per ctffit. of the vessels were quite unserviceable. M. Bernard, Minister of Marine, intimated that the Ministry intended that the ! Mediterranean sfeotfld remain a French gulf. The Goferfirn'ehfc Wife establish a strong coast defen diff, and contemplates building ships for service Europe. In the Chamber of Deputies M. Declasse somplained that an important letter from a high naval functionary had been opened, the Contents abstracted, and the letter then httmded to Deputy Millerand. He hinted that a Ministerial organ had opened and published the eontents of the letter. Ah enquiry into the matter was ordfcied. . , . , Paris, February 6. The Chamber of Deputies has adopted the amended Budget proposals, Which pro- j vide for an expenditure of ninetj'-siif ! million francs (.£3,840,000) in the construction of new warships during the year.
