The Cbristohurch' Building Society pays a dividend at the rate of per cent, per annum, and carries forward a. substantial balance. Bullion to the value of ,£11,887 was brought up from the VV est Coast on Saturday morning by the Mawhera, consigned to the Bank of Australasia. A Napier paper, recording the recent double breakdown of engines on the Wel-lington-Napier express train service, adds, bluntly, " Cause, rotten rolling-stock." Another paper urges that a thorough inspection of the locomotives on the Napier side s necessary.
