HAWERA.
I notice that the New Zealand Times referred to the removal of our postmaster (Mr J. F. Martin) to Feilding. Mr Martin has been with us over 12 years, and during that time he has been closely connected with local institutions. It is no doubt to his perseverance and constant representation to the powers that be that we owe the commodious and permanent building that is in use here as a post office. We wish him success in his new sphere, and he may rest assured that it will be years before those who have worked with him will forget his zeal in local affairs. Saturday was the opening day of the Hunt Club, and some 200 people attended the first meet. lam told that the sport was not very good, and there were a few spills, the ground being greasy at the fences, but nevertheless no great injury was sustained. Saturday, also, the New Plymouth bowlers sent down a team to try conclusions with the Hawera bowlers. Needless to say the visiting team were the victors. After the, play some complimentary speeches were made by members of both clubs. At the annual meeting of the Normanby Horticultural Society the balance-sheet showed that the debit balance of .£lB at the commencement of the year had been converted into a credit balance of .£B. Buildings are still being added to the town. Mr A'Oourt's new shop in High street is nearing completion. Mr Fake is building a two-storied addition to his shop on the Regent street frontage, and Mr Houston is building an engineering and machine shop in Union street. All these buildings have outside brick walls in compliance with the new building regulations. Winter popular concerts were started last Monday.
