Patorson waited on the City Council last week in reference to an application on behalf of the infantry corps of Wellington, the Guards and Rifles, for permission to camp on Newtown Park from the sth to the 12th of December for drill purposes. He said that there would be about 80 men ; they would have 12 tents ; no guns and no horses; would be on the ground in the early hours of the morning and late in the evening ; and would not do any damage to the Park. Mr Paterson pointed out that they had no facilities for open-air drill in Wellington, and had been singularly unfortunate in the matter of their previous annual camps. Attacking, skirmishing and other movements would be gone through, and the public would be invited to witness the manoeuvres. _ Only the far end of the reserve would _ be utilised.
