TO MY FELLOW-WORKERS ON LEAVING WELLINGTON.
[By “R.L,”] Staam is up, my passage paid, Screams the whistle overhead ; Partings o’er with all that’s dear — Outward smile but inward tear, As I wander forth alone, Far away from Wellington,
Sons of toil I bid adieu, Dear the cause to me and you ; Nights we oft have thoughtful spent In our little Parliament ; Good we’ve done but seldom known In the heart of Wellington.
Soon you will be called to name One to Laboui’s cause maintain In the House where laws are made, And where lies your surest aid. Vote as one f >r Hutcheson, Honour bring to Wellington.
Firm of nerve to climb the mast, Cool of head when top at last ; Wise of speech and strong of soul, Pl ice him topmost at the poll. Shout, Hurrah for Hutcheson ! Crown with glory Wellington.
Now, ere bidding you farewell, Fellow-workers, let me tell : ]f you true t< gellier stand, Heart to heart, and hand to h ml, Then the battle sure is won. Hurrah ! hurrah for Hutehe.on ! October 30 h, 1896.
