The Wairarapa Rifle Club Association held a concert at Greytown on Wednesday evening week, under the presidency of Mr W. C. Buchanan, . M.H.R. There was a large attendance in spite of rain, and every item was encored. Miss Sheen, Messrs R. P. Johnston, A.. S. Paterson, Gant, Rouse and others contributed largely to the success o£ the evening.
A battalion parade for Government inspection was hold on Monday in the Drillshed. The parade state was as follows.-—City Rifles* 58, under Captain Duthie ; Guards, 46, under Captain Paterson ; Garrison Band, 22, under Bandmaster Herd, Staff : Major Collins and Sergeant-Major Finn. The corps were inspected by Major Collins, and after being put through various movements a march out was held, headed by the Garrison Band.Sf Two youths had a very narrow escape from drowning in the harbour on Saturday. They were out in a half-decked yacht northward of the Railway Wharf, when a gust of wind came up, and the sheet being fastened the beat capsized and sank.
