Messrs Dwan Bros., as agents, purchased the property at Karori in the estate of the late Mr J. C. Cole, auctioned by George Thomas and Company on Monday. The price was .£6OO. Nine boxes of gold came up from Greymouth by the Mawhera on Monday. Five of these (weighing 48640 z) are for th<* Bank of New Zealand, Sydney, and the other four boxes, which weigh 29340 z, are consigned to the National Bank. Councillor Smith at the Public Works Committee meeting on Monday : —"I would sooner see boys go and invest their money on the races—the totalisator —than on oity shooting galleries. They gamble their money away before they get home on Saturdays. Shooting galleries aren't wanted."
