It was decided that the necessary steps should be taken to raise a loan of £SOO for the Lowry Bay road. Messrs Brandon and Hi slop wrote with reference to the closing of the road, and transfer of the same, through section 417, block 14, Akatarawa, and it was resolved that as no objections had been lodged against the alteration of the road, the Council declares that the road is stopped and exchanged for other land. It was decided that the Assistant Surveyor-General should be written to asking that the plans with reference to the deviation of the Day’s Bay road should be approved, in order that the road maybe dedicated to the Council. The Johnsonville Town Board wrote threatening an action for the recovery of <£2s, paid by the Board to the Council for the maintenance of the old Porirua road, unless the sum was refunded by the 18th inst. The letter was ordered to lie on the table.

A deputation of residents at Taita urged the Council to use its influence in preventing the Taita portion of the Epuni Riding of the Hutt county being brought within the boundaries of the Lower Hutt borough. It was decided to raise a loan of £230 under the Loans to Local Bodies Act for the construction of part of the HuttWaikanae road, between the railway line and the Waikanae river, provided the Horowhenua County Council raised £l7O for the same work.

Dairy certificates were issued to Messrs W. Barton, Gordon Bros., G. T. Langley, J. Swain, A. Bramley, D. Judd and J. Taylor on the recommendation of the Inspector of Dairies. Mr H. H. Travers and others asked that the Council expend .£2O in repairing the road between Mr Travers’ place and Paraparaumu township. The matter was left in Councillor Field’s hands, with a recommendation that the amount be spent.

The question of the confirmation of the special order of riding boundaries was discussed, and the motion to confirm and seal and gazette the order was lost by 5 to 3. The polling booths in the various ridings for the county elections were fixed ; the re-turning-oflicer is to decide the date of the poll. Mr F. de J. Clere applied for permission to make a road 33ft wide to a piece of land at Paikakariki, which it is intended shall be cut into sections. The matter was referred to Mr Field, the councillor for the riding. The meeting of the Rikiorangi ratepayers to consider the joint loan question was fixed for the 24th inst.

The inspector reported that he had been informed that some persons were taking rails out of the fence at Ngahauranga line, presumably for firewood. He had given instructions that an information be laid. The approaches to the Porirua cemetery were in a bad state, and ho recommended that repairs be made by the Porirua roadman.
