VOLUNTEERS.

A parade of the Wellington Naval Artillery numbering 05 men, was held last week Lieutenants Campbell, Bell, Hume and Cooper in command. The men fell in under the new system of organisation introduced by Sergeant-Major Richardson and recently arranged for by the Defence Department. Under this system the particular posts which the men will occupy when manning forts for practice or active service will he : —Fort Gordon, by one section, under Instructor Meade, with bin U. L. guns, and Forts Ballance and Kan Point. The two latter sections were engaged during the evening in being instructed in the positions which they will bo required to keep. Several new members were brought forward for enrolment, and tho strength ol’ the corps is now being increased for the purpose of manning the forts to which they have been allocated. The Wellington Guards Company parade last week was well attended, there being--45 present under Lieutenants Dutliie and Hareonrt. Tho company was exorcised by the otlioers and non-commissionod ollieers in company and physical drill, and before being dismissed the A and B classes were reminded of the finish of their annual shooting at GOO i yards. The City Rifles paraded for Government I inspection at tho Drillshed last Monday,

when there were present on pirado 58 of all ranks, under command of Lieutenant Muir. Major Collins was the inspecting officer. Sergeant-Major Finn exercised the company in physical drill. The annual ball of the Wellington Guards is to he held on tho 17th July.
