PORT NICHOLSON YACHT CLUB.
On Saturday afternoon the Port Nicholson Yacht Club succeeded in getting off, under very favourable circumstances, the second annual race tor the Levin Cup and the races which were postponed from .Regatta Day. There was a fine southerly breeze throughout the afternoon, and some excellent racing was witnes-od. Mr A. G. Dixon acted as starter and timekeeper, and also handicapped the boats for the Levin Cup race. The handicaps for the 18ft and 14ft boats were declared by Mr T. Collins, of the Arawa Sailing Club. '1 he course for the boats competing for the Levin Cup was from the Queen’s Wharf round the Korokoro and Worser Day buoys, back to the starting point. The competing yachts wore: —Maritana, scr; Isca. 4min ; Rona, lOmin ; Mahina, 34n>in ; Atalanta, 35min; Waiwetu, 41min; Jennie Reid, 48min. The Waitangi did _ net start. 'Che boats got away almost in a bunch, tho Mahina and Atalanta leading. .Aftor awhile the Maritana assumed premier position, and maintained it to the finish. Tho boats completed the course as follows : Maritana, 41i 55min. ; Atalanta, 5h 3min 30sec ; Rona, 5h 9min ; Isca, 5h 12min; Waiwetu, 5h 2lmin ; Mahina, 5h 25min ; Jennie Reid, bh 32min. Taking time allowances into consideration, the Atalanta won, Waiwetu second, Jennie * eid third, Mahina fourth, Maritana fifth, Rona sixth and Isca seventh. Mr Winstanlcy, owner of the Ati’auta, will hold the Levin Cup for a year, while Mr J.P. Max'well, of t-tio W aiwetu, will ‘fccik.o jxs liis i\bsolute property the cup given by Mr R. Logan, of Auckland. The Maritana returned with, her bobstay carried away, while the Mahina reported tiisit her mß>in sheet had been cut by one of the crew of the Jennic R»eid during a collision, bet ween those two boats as they were rounding Korokoro buoy. Dr helicon the Mahina, has in consequence entered a protest against the Jennie Reid. The Fishing-boat Race was won by the Duello, which beat the Marathon by 90sec. The Macedon was along way behind. The three boats started from scratch. The prizes were «£lO and .£5. The handicaps for the 18ft race were as follow : —Dauntless, scr; Moll Don, 45sec ; lona, 90sec. The Belle did not start. The boats finished in that order. The Dauntless therefore takes Mr F. Grady’s trophy ana JZS, while the Moll Don secures the second prize of <£2. The winner of the race for the 14-footers was the Belle (E. Seager’s) which started from scr, the Curro, 30sec, being second, the lan and Rewi, each 2n.in 30sec, being third and fourth respectively. The Belle takes the ' D.I.C. trophy and ,£4, and the Curro wins £l.
The smooth water on Friday enabled the Wellington Bowing Club to complete several events. In the Maiden Challenge Race, for the crew to represent the club at Christchurch on the 20th instant, Bill (stroke), Alexander (No. 3), McLaren (No. 2 , shilling (bow) and Master Raymond (cox) boat Mu;oguo (stroke), G. Rountree (No. 3), H. Rountree (No. 2), Push (bow; and Master Mvacham Jeox) by three lengths, after a bard race. In the “Ross” Double Sculls, Gamble (serose) and Cooke (bow) boat Barrie (stroke) arid Cutbbertsoii (bow) by a couple of feet, and ‘Tlodber (stroke) and C. Graham (bow) beat Raio-pgon (stroke) and Fountain (bow) by tn. 3 same instance. For the Senior Sculls, Poll b<Sitt_Sergeant by two lengths.
