MUSICAL EXAMINATIONS. From Our Special Correspondent. London, December 28. The following is the pass list in order of merit for the practical examinations held by Mr Foster at the Christchurch, Dunedin and Aehburton centres on October 21st, 22nd and Senior Division.—Honours Certificates — Williams (violin), Moore (violin), Watson (violin), (Aldred, Black), Erskine, (Bannatyne, Twemlow). Pass Certificates—(Tresedder, Yorston lor vio'in), Lo Keong. (Little, Donaldson for violin), Macedo, Tewsley, Henderson. Junior Division. —Honours Certificate — Chisholm. Pass Certificates —M. Jcnes, (vVilson, Fraser), Delancy, Bell, (Burr, O'lteilly), Jackson, (McGill. Shringleman), (Burke, Lawrence), Gresham, (Gibson, Scanlan), Dawe. Primary Division Certificates —Gourlay, McAidle, Matbeson, Leelye, O'Connell,Cotter (violin), Bassett, Thompson (violin). Brackets indicate equality, and except where otherwise noted the subject of examination waa pianoforte playing. Mr Alfred Hill, who has boon on a visit to Christchurch, accompanied by his brother, Mr E. J. Hill, gave a highly successful concert in the Cathedral City on Friday night last, the programme being composed entirely of his own compositions. It consisted of a sonatina for violin and piano, a fantasiestuok for violin, two piano soli (Slumber Music and Gavotte), albumblatt for violin, vocal duet and quartette from " The Whipping Boy," and vocal solo pieces entitled "For the New Year," "'Rivortide," "The Story," "Ah ! Summer Day," " Heavenly Hope," "When I am Dead" and "My Fairest Child," and Ihe humorous vocal trio "Three Blind Mice." The concert took place in the Oddfellows' Hall, and so warmly appreciative were the audience that nearly every item was encored. Messrs Hill returned from the South on Sunday.
