Melbourne, June 11. The Premier has instructed the AgentGeneral to impress on. the Imperial Government the importance of the Pacific cable and the necessity of an early representative conference to discuss the subject. He also urges Mr Gillies to endeavour to secure the co-operation of the AgentsGeneral for the other qolonies. The Supreme Court has sanctioned the compromise arranged by the creditors in the bankrupt estate of Alfred Shaw. The Railway Commissioners expect their estimate of the year’s revenue to be realised. The four brother Abrahams, defendants in the Greener gun case, have been committed for trial on the charge of conspiracy in selling illegally marked guns. Yesterday was the last day for the payment of the income tax. The amount received to date was <£140,000, but considerable payments by post are still due. About 3000 appeals have been lodged. The meeting of shareholders in the Broken Hill Central mine adjourned without taking any definite action regarding the proposed sale of the property. : ■ Hobart, Juno 11. The ketch Strathmore has been wrecked in Bass Straits. She has a.cargo of 50,000 feet timber. Adelaide, June 10. Mr Patrick Glynn, the National Defence League’s candidate, has been elected for the North Adelaide constituency, in the place of Mr Hawker, deceased. Adelaide, June 11. The ketch Vivid has been totally wrecked near Wallaroo. The National Insurance Company of New Zealand has a line of <£3oo on the hull. ; Sydney, June 10. Council in rejecting a number of important Bills, aud said he foresaw a great movement for Constitutional reform if the will of the people was any longer overridden. The basis of the Legislative Assembly was recently altered, and it was an open question vdiether a corresponding" advance should not bo made in the Council. Brisbane, June 11. The revenue for the eleven months of the financial year shows an increase of <£94,000 as compared with the same period , last year, while the expenditure has decreased by <£64,000. Trade generally is good, and there is an improvement in its expansion
