A LADY’S LETTER FROM PATEA.
Dear Aunt Ellen,-— The second of the Patea Assemblies eventuated in the Harmonic Hall on Friday evening last, and was a great success. The weather was all that could be desired, being beautifully fine and bright moonlight. The floor was splendid, but the music was not oo good as usual on account of one of the musicians being out of town. There were about forty couples present, and some of the ladies’ dresses were very pretty. I will endeavour to describe seme of the most noticeable:—Mrs Millar wore blue cashmere trimmed with dark blue velvet; Mrs Christie, a very handsome yellow corded silk ; Mrs R. Jackson, white corded silk trimmed with amber velvet; Miss Cleary (YVaverley), black trimmed with old gold silk ; Miss A. Gower, black velvet and pink silk ; Miss L. Gower, pink net; Miss Kenworthy, blue cashmere trimmed with cream chiffon; Mrs E. Symes (Waverley), pink with dark maroon plush; Miss K. Peat (Waverley), a stylish yellow 3illc trimmed with green plush; Miss Martelli (Wanganui), a pink gauze over pink silk with green silk sleeves and trimmings ; Mis 3 Peacock, cream silk and poppies; Miss M. Hawkin, white ; Miss Cameron, heliotrope silk ; Miss B. Hunter white and pink ; Miss Hunter, black lace over heliotrope; Miss M. Hunter, white; Miss M. Shields, blue and white sash; Miss F. Shields, cream silk; Misses Rossiter, black velvet and blue ribbons; Mrs Horner, black lace and sflver; Miss Laster, brown silk ; Miss Newing (Waverley), pink; Miss Guyes (Christchurch), pink nun’s veiling and green trimming; Miss G. Hamerton (New Plymouth), yellow trimmed with narrow brown velvet ribbon ; Miss B. Hamerton (Inglewood), pink; Mrs Erskine, red nun’s veiling; Misses Cowern, pink with cream lace; Mrs Cowern, black velvet and cream lace; Miss Wybourne (Waverley), yellow; Mesdames G. D. Hamerton, T. E. Hamerton, Peacock, Cameron and Dickie wore black; Mrs H. E. P. Adams, a very handsome black watered silk and silk lace ; Miss Turner, blue nun’s veiling; Miss E. Symes, canary trimmed with white beaver; Miss Dickie (Waitotara), white and scarlet sash; Mrs C. Symes, black silk. Patea, June 8. Olive.
