The anniversai-y services in connection with St. John's Presbyterian Sunday School took place on Sunday. The Eev J. Paterson preached in the morning, and although there was a rather thin congregation, the collection in aid of the school funds realised .£l9. Mr F. H. Fraser and Mr W. Allen addressed the school children in the afternoon. There was a full congregation in the evening when the Eev J. E. Glasson preached. The very effective singing of the special hymns set for the occasion was a marked feature of the service. Mr Maughan Barnett' presided at the organ with ip's accustomed ability. The collections for the day amounted to .£2B 8s 3d.

The St. John's Sunday School anniversary tea meeting was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday evening. Nearly 500 attended, the following ladies presiding at the tables: —Mrs Lennox, and Misses Hopkirk, Kirker, Troup, Duncan, Sloan, Scott, Chappie, Paterson, McGregor, Dunning, Quee, Badden, Crawford, Skelly, Pulton, Paul, M. Hopkirk, Hancock, McLeod, Steel, Anderson, Smith, Tait, Fraser and Hutchings. Tea was provided by the lady teachers, so that the entire proceeds of the tea meeting will go to the Sunday School Fund. Subsequently, a public meeting was held in the church, where the children, under the able leadership of Mr W. Hopkirk, sang some excellent pieces. The Rev J. Paterson presided, and appropriate addresses were delivered by the Rev B. T. Hallowes and Mr Reith. Mr Hallowes spoke on the subject of the "Model Scholar," who, he slid, should attend school regularly, learn how to think, ask questions and gain information, and finally, having gained knowledge, practise what he- knew. Mr Keith spoke of school examinations, and gave some valuable advice on the subject. Mr Maughan Barnett presided at the organ. Bishop Moran invariably insisted on the importance of having churches and schools free from debt. " The church/'' he was in the habit of saying, " belonged to God, and no man should have a lien on the Church of God."
