AN OUTSPOKEN COLONIST.

Mr Knight, for whom we publish the birth notice of his twelfth child, writes to us as follows : TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Will you oblige me with space to pen a few lines to the Honourable Premier ? Sir, —May I make bold to say some of us fatherly men desire a little consideration at the hands of the nation. With that end in view I petition you, from your position in the House of Representatives during the coming session, to move that R. G. Knight and any other father of 12 children receive a grant of 100 acres of land to use and hold till that child is 21 years of age, ■when it be transferred to the twelfth child for his use and benefit,'and that of his heirs after him. And that every other child'born after the twelfth receive a grant of 100 acres likewise. - Such a law -would be an encouragement to some of the young men, who are runningin single harness (in many cases), hitching on to selfishness.

To alter their mode of life, join a partner in double harness, with the matrimonial car behind, they would soon find two in harness is better than one to get over the steep grades of life, with the 100 acres as a cheering star ahead. Sir, with myself marriage has been no failure. Now I find my children a great help to me m my way through life. The elder ones have helped me meet the sweating of the North and South, and the financial pressure of the centre of this Colony, and wonderfully assisted me to maintain my independence as a Britisher.—l am, &c, R. G. Knight*
