Mrs Laws, of Napier, who was arrested in Sydney f<->r having forged her husband's name to several cheques, by means of which she is alleged to have obtained money belonging to a friendly society, was brought to Wellington from Sydney in charge of Constable Stephenson on the 23rd. Although she was supposed to have taken about £3OO with her, only the sum of 2s 2d was found upon her at Sydney. The accused had an unpleasant experience while being taken from the "Water Police Court; Sydney, to the goal. The horses attached to the van in which she, with other piisoners, was being conveyed, bolted and overturned the vehicle, which they dragged along the street for some distance. The prisoners were all more or less hurt, and Mrs Laws had to spend a week in the hospital.
