Tho beautiful silver cup given by the Wellington Racing Club to tho ownor of tho winner of tho Wellington Cup lias boon engraved by Mr W. Bock. Tho inscription on oaoli side of tlio trophy is as follows: “Tho Wellington Cup, won by Mr H. To Kani Pore's br h Maliaki, 4yrs, Ingomar— Stoppo." Tho engraving, which is in old English, has boon carried out by Mr Bock in a most workmanlike manner. Tho London Sportsman says that if Carbine had boon put up to auction ho would liavo brought -820,000. Tho paper is unable to understand tho Court permitting a private sale. Tho stallion Soaton Delaval, bought by Mr L. D. Nathan, of Auckland, has arrived at Sydney, but will bo quarantined beforo being forwarded to Now Zealand. “Martindolo" reports that during a recent trip to Adelaide Mr Humphrey Oxonham had tho chanco of booking a docent sort of wager on tho next Melbourne Cup. The offer was made by Mr John Pile, lie being willing to take 10,000 to 150 about a jumping horse for the next cup. Tho offer was refused. Mr Pilo thinks that ho will bo able to got his old favourite, Confidence, well enough to start in another Grand National.
