The Manawatu andOreti, which stranded at Wanganui recently, were taken on the patent slip on the 13th in order that the damage they had received might be ascertained. A large number of sheets of zinc on the Manawatu will have to be stripped and renewed, and the bottom of the vessel re-caulked and the rudder repaired. As to the Oreti the rudder, rudder-post, and \ a portion of the stern-post will have to be repaired. Externally, the bottom does not appear to have received much damage. The Manawatu is expected to be ready for sea •aghin by Saturday. Glasgow has made another step m the direction of social reform, having established a labour shelter.
