San Francisco, January 22.
Nows was received on the 19th that a numbor of Hawaii natives resisted an attempt to search the house of a prominent loyalist for arms.
They fired on tho search party, and killed Mr Charles Carter, a member of tho Legislature. Afterwards tho rising became serious. The insurgents at first repelled tho regulars, but reinforcements were obtained, and tho robels were pursued into the brushwood.
About 500 of them wero captured, 12 killed, and many wounded.
It is admitted that the leadars of the outbreak were Nowlin, Colonel of the Queen's Guard, and "Willcox, leader of the revolution in 1887. Another band of rebels was driven into an impaaae. Several wore lulled, and the capture of the rest is inevitable. Tho ox-Queen has been placed under surveillance. There are 20,000 Japanese inclined to sido with the Royalists. "Washington, January 22. Mr R. R. ITitt, Republican member for Illinois, introduced the question of this outbreak in Congress as an argument in favour of an American cable, and opposed a concession to any English line. The President contended that the Uziited States had no right to interfere with Hawaii, and declined to protect any Americans who attempted to Overthrow the existing Government. The Senate ignored a motion similar to Mr Hitt's, and also one in favour of tho annexation of Hawaii. Tho discussion in Congross ovor the outbreak in Hawaii was rather oxcited, owing to a report that a British steamer conveyod arms for the use of tho insurgents. Mr Lodgo assorted that Great Britain was trying to ostablish a supremacy over the islands. Tho United States Government has ordored a cruiser to Honolulu. London, January 22. Tho Hawaiian Envoy in London declares that the rising has boon suppressed. Nkw York, January 28. Tho Senate, by a majority of two, endorsed tho President's Hawaiian policy, urging tho States to keep aloof from any foreign entanglements.
