FEATHERSTON.

Featiiehston, January 15. On Saturday the usual monthly meeting of the Featherston Road Board was held; present—Messrs A. Matthews (chairman), Jas. Donald, Jas. McLeod, T. Evans, J. Nix, J. P. Russell and W. E. Bidwill. Accounts amounting to £312 were passed for payment. It was resolved that a special order should be passed at the next meeting, to be confirmed on February 14th, that further sums of £56, £2B, and £2B be applied for the Pukeo, Tullocks and MartinboroughPukeo roads respectively, as the loans were not sufficient to carry out the works executed.

On Friday afternoon the youngest son of Mr F. A. Thompson had his foot badly cut by his elder brother, who is about six year old. They were at Mr Thompson’s survey camp at Pigeon Bush, and the elder boy was chopping wood with an axe, which slipped and cut the foot severely, almost severing one toe. The little sufferer was taken to Greytown and attended by Dr Bey, and is now doing well. In the Court yesterday, Dr Hauratty was charged with having used threatening language towards W. Gilpin, storekeeper, and with having broken a large pane of glass in his shop window, Defendant, whQ

did not put in an appearance, was fined 20s and 7s costs for the first offence, and 30s and 7s costs, or seven days’ imprisonment, for the second offence. The Domain Board has a credit balance of £24 10s 2d.

The funeral of the late Miss Mason, whose body was found in the Ruamahunga River on Saturday, took place this afternoon, and was well attended.
