The business of the Telegraph Department has increased to such an extent that it has been found necessary to open the principal offices in the Colony for ordinary business between 5 and 7 p.m. Hitherto they have been closed during those hours. It has been resolved by the Greytown Borough Council to apply to the Government for a loan of <£4oo for a bridge over the Waiohino river at Matarawa. The estimated cost of the bridge is <£IGOO, and it is expected that the Government will grant .£IOOO, and that .£2OO will be subscribed in Greytown. A German Jofficer has invented a|motor in which a fine stream of coal dust is utilised to drive a piston by explosion, in the same manner as the gas in a gasengine.
