Mr B. Wayte, Government Dairy Instructor in the South Island, is being transferred to the North Island, and is now in Wellington. Mr McEwan, who arrived from Canada some two months ago under engagement to the Government, is at present acting in the South Island. In conversation with a New Zealand Mail reporter on Tuesday, Mr Wayte said that satisfactory progress appeared to have been made in the dairy industry throughout the South Island during the present season. A considerable number of new cheese and butter factories and creameries have started, and though perhaps the outlook is not quite so promising as for the last season, he thinks that if cheese and butter of fine quality are sent Home the producers may expect to receive remunerative prices. In order to ensure this result, he impresses upon farmers the absolute necessity of.
supplying the milk in a clean and sound condition, free from dirt and odours, as tinless supplied with a first-class raw material it is not possible for cheese and butter makers to turn out a first-rate article.
