At the Hospital a pleasant little coixeert organised by the nursing staff amused the patients on Boxing Night. The nurses, who did most of the work, were assisted by some of the local amateurs. A capital number was “ The Three Old Maids ol Lee,” by Nui'ses Rattigau, Brown and Field, in character 1 , admirably produced, the descriptive solo being excellently taken by Nurse Nelmes. It was l'apturously encored, as was the famous “Gondolier” quartette, admirably acted by Nui*ses Grieg, Nelmes, Leslie and Field. The “Better 1 Land,” which also had to bo repeated, was beautifully sung by Nurse Grieg, and Nui’se Nelmes -scoi’ed a distinct success with “ Love’s Old Sweet Song.” Mi* Gibson brought down the house no less than six times with as many different songs, the best of which were “ Tantivy,” “The Romany Lass” and the whimsical dainty “ There was once an Apple.” Mr F. V. Waters sang the “ Y eoman’s Wedding Song” and “The Gallants of England,” which being vei*y deservedly encored, he followed with a fine l’endering of “ Out on the Deep.” Mr Loughnan sang the “ Holy City ” and a song of Sullivan’s, and the whole of the singers gave that lively glee of Caldecott’s “ Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall.” The musical ari'angements were in the capable bands of Nurse Burnes, who played most of the accompaniments in excellent style, and the concert ended with the National Anthem.
