THE TICHBORNE CASE.
Sydney, Decornbor 24. Cresswoll, tlio Tichborne claimant, was seen recently in tho Asylum by a man calling himself Peterson, who was cook of: tho Bella, tho vessel which convoyotl Sir Eogor Tichborne from Rio. This man will swear that Cresswoll is the passenger who was on board tho Bella. Sydney, December 2G. Jean Louie, who figured so prominently in the Tichborne caso, is now residing in Sydney. Ho states that tho Osproy, in .which Tichborne reached Sydnoy, is identical with the Bella. He, the captain, and one or two othors plotted to steal the vossel and altered her to a barque, and, instead of going ,to Now York, wont to Australia. In the meantime Captain Oates, while ashore, porsuadod Sir Roger to leave Rio, whore he had boon About a week, drinking heavily, and go to in the Bella. } A ship chandler named Brown and Oates took Tichborne aboard in tho afternoon, but, as tho vessel had entered out, it was necessary in order to avoid air alteration in tho papers to stow him away from tho eyes of the scrutineering olllcors. SvnNTiiY, December 28. • The cook of tho Bella, who is living in Sydney, corroborates tho story of tho ' piracy of that vessel. Auckland, December 28. With respoct to tho cablegrams regarding the Tichborno case, none of the old identities hore know of Monkhouso, and his name - does not appear on tho electoral rolls within 1.00 miles of Auckland. Auckland, Docombor 20. Mr John Phillipps, of Phillipps and Son, paintors, and Mr E. Bartloy, architect, stato that they remember Monkhouso, roforred to in the Tichborno case as being in Auckland, perfectly well. Ho loft Auckl land about 1870. Jlo was a scenic artist and decorater.
