FOR THE CHILDREN.

In the Mail of November, the Rev. Wm. Birch, of Christchurch, suggested that the children of our readers should be asked to send any spßre toys, dolls, etc., to the office of ttiis paper for distribution amongst the poor and sick children of the city. To this appeal we have received a very practical response, in the shape of a big parcel of toys, sent by Lois Burcham, of Haleombe. The parcel was accompanied by a letter, of which the following is a copy : Haleombe, Dec. 7, 1894. To the Dear Little Children, — I am sending you some of my toys, and I hope you will like them, and I hope you will all tiave a Merry Christmas and a Happy New-Year. I am going to send a shilling to buy a tea-set like mine. for one little girl. I like mine very much to have tea parties with. With lots of love to you ■ all, Your little friend, Lois Burcham. Enclosed in the letter were two shillings, which the Editor will expend in purchasing additional toys —tea-sets, as wished, if possible—and the whole, with any other toys that may be forwarded, we will send np to the Children’s Ward at the Wellington Hospital. We trust that this course ivill be approved of by Mr Birch, and by the senders of the toys.— The Editor N.Z.M.
