THE PREMIER IN AUCKLAND.
Auckland, December 12. At a conference between the Central Council of the labour-political organisations and the Premier, a request was made that fresh co-operative'.works should be opened in this district. _ , ~ The* Premier guardedly replied, and said he would carry >out such co-operative works as Were expedient. An application was made for an alteration of the Harbours, Municipal Corporations, and Counties Acts, so as to enable local bodies to let public works on the cooperative principle. The Premier said he was in favour'd that proposal. ... ... ' Ah alteration; of the Education Act, to allow all women possessing the parliamentary franchise to vote at elections of school committees, was then asked for. The Premier replied that he was agreeable to this, but if they began tinkering with the Education Act, a flood of amendments might be brought in. That was the danger in disturbing the Act. A vote of thanks was given to the Premier, and a vote of confidence passed in the present Government.
