In Austria tobacco in all forms is a Government monopoly, and the Government makes enormous profits out of the cigarette alone. In 1893*there were 1,406,600,91sold, and in the first quarter of 1894, 44,000,000 more cigarettes were sold than in the same quarter of last year. In the course of last year 12,000,000 florins were spent in cigarettes alone in Austria. The ancient palace of the Bishops of Chichester, situated in Neville Court, Fetter Lane, is about to disappear, It dates back to Elizabethan times.
