A German officer guilty of insulting a school master has been sentenced to several months’ confinement in a fortress. This sentence had to be submitted to the Emperor for confirmation. His Majesty, in confirming it, made the marginal remark —“ I should never have believed that I had in my army such a rude officer.” The sum of £1350 already collected in Wellington for the Wairarapa Fund.
