H. Craig, Otago ; Mr F. D. Luckie, Napier secretary to the Conference. The President expressed great pleasure that there was so large an attendance of delegates, and said he hoped that there would be an expression of opinion as to the establishment of a New Zealand Jockey Club. For his own part, he was strongly in favour of such a club.

Mr Maginnity suggested that the Conference pass a resolution for the establishment of a New Zealand Jockey Club ; but the President ruled that he could not accept a motion on the subject without notice.

It was manifest, however, that a large majority of the Conference are in favour of a New Zealand Jockey Club to deal with all matters affecting the principles on which racing laws should be based. Sir E. Stout’s Gaming Bill was then considered clause by clause, and was agreed to, with a few unimportant amendments. A long discussion ensued regarding the limiting of totalisator licenses by onethird, and as to the regulations to be drawn up on the subject. Eventually it was resolved that the representatives of each metropolitan district should bring up a scheme to be submitted to the Conference showing how the reduction would be made in each district. A resolution proposed by Dr Newman recommending that the reduction of totalisator permits should be proportionately the same for racing and trotting clubs was unanimously agreed to. The Conference adjourned at 10.30 p.m. till 10 a.m. next day. Christchurch, July 20. The following acceptances have been received for the C.J.C.
