ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society was held on Friday night in tho Museum, MajorGeneral Schaw (vice-chairman) presiding. The report and balance - sheet were adopted without comment. His Excellency the Governor was re-elected president, and Sir J. Hector, K.C.M.G., and Major-General Schaw, C. 8., vice-presi-dents. The following council was elected by ballot: —Wairarapa Messrs W. 11. Beetham, C. D. Whatman and J. Bidwill j Wellington—Messrs C. H. Izard, T. E. Donne, E. F. Hawk, F. N. Hawkins, C. B. Morison, W. R. Morris, J. H. Stringer, L. G. Reid and A. J. Rutherfurd. Mr C. H. Izard thought the Society's meetings would be more largely attended if holders of two <£l licenses were entitled to membership without the payment of an extra 5s as provided for now. Mr L. G. Reid (treasurer) explained that only three persons had paid the extra 5s entitling them to membership. He regretted that sportsmen took such little interest in tho Society’s operations. There seemed to be a want of real sportmanlike feeling in the community. On the motion of Mr W. H. Beetham, seconded by Mr F. Whitley, it was agreed that any holder of two licenses (a fishing and a shooting license) shall bo considered a member of the Society without extra payment. It was also decided on the motion of Mr Morris that the holder of one £1 license (shooting or fishing) should bj a member on payment of ss. The Council was instructed to amend tho rule accordingly. After some complimentary remarks from Messrs Boetliam and Izara, a vote of thanks was passed to tho rangera and curator for their good- work during the year. A vote of thanks was also passed to the assistant secretary (Mr Cowio).
