According to a Hawera telegram, the Government has completed the negotiations for the purchase of the Ngaire block of 7000 acres, the price being 10s per acre. Mr Sheridan, of the Native Land Purchase Department, went to the district this week to arrange the matter. The land, which was owned by the daughters of the late Hone Pihama and their uncle, is well situated, and its purchase by the Crown should give great impetus to settlement in the district.
