APIARY.

The Oamaru Mail states that Mr W. Mills, of South Oamaru, who is great apiarist, received by the San Francisco mail, from Mr A. J. Root, Medina, Ohio, two small boxes of bees, each containing a queen and forty working bees. These latter were all dead, but as both queens were alive and well, the object to be served by importing the bees was satisfactorily gained. The insects were packed in small boxes with holes pierced therein, and a quantity of honey and sugar was added for their delectation. The boxes came through the post in the ordinary way. Mr Mills has now some sixty-five hives in the district, from which he reaps a remunerative harvest. Last year alone he took two and a-half tons of honey from his bees.
