CHARITABLE AID COMMISSIONS.

The commission to enquire into the appeal made by the United District Charitable Aid Board against the requisition of the Benevolent Institution for a grant of £5765, on the ground that it is excessive, was opened in the Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, before Mr J. C Martin, the Rev H. Van SUveren (commissioner for the Benevolent Institution) and Mr T. E. Maodohald (commissioner for the board), Mr M. Chapman, who appeared /or the board, asked for an adjournment, as he had only learned by a mere acoident that the commission intended sitting that morning. No objection was offered to the adjournment by Mr Hialop (who represented the Uenevolest Institution). During the disoussiou which ensued Mr Martin said .he understood from Mr Vmi Staveren that the Benevolent Institution's account with the bank was guaranteed only till the end of the month, and after that they would be absolutely without funds, except euoh as the bank choose to let them have.

It was finally decided that the enquiry should be adjourned until Thursday, the 25th inst, at 10.30 am THE QUESTION OF THE CONVALE3* CENT HOMB. The commission, consisting of Mr J. C. Martin, R.M., Mr T. F. Martin, and Dr Newman, M.H.H., appointed . to deoide whether the Convalescent Home contributors shall be incorporated a separate institution under the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act or not, sat in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday afternoon. Mr L. Tripp appeared for the • nitod District Board,-and Mr Bell in support of the incorporation. Mr Tripp said the board contended that the institution was not necessary.

Messrs Lionel Lewis Harris, John Henry Heaton and James Petherlck having given ovidenoe, Mr Tripp addessei tha Court. Mr Bell replied. The Court then adjourned until Friday at 10 a.m., the Resident Magistrate saying that he would inform Mr Bell whether it would be necessary for him to call witnesses.
