THE DUKE OF YORK.
London, May 3. The engagement of the Duke of York and Princess May is officially announced, thus disposing of the rumour that the Duke was secretly married at Malta. London, May 4. Tho Queen officially announces that she was informed of Prince George's betrothal on Tuesday evening, and gladly gave her consent. The press heartily welcomes the announcement.
It is expected that the marriage of the Duke of York and Princess May will take place in the autumn. London, May 5. The Agents-General of the various Australian Colonies will congratulate the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York upon the latter's engagement. The Sovereigns of Europe have congratulated Princess May, who has received four hundred telegrams from distinguished personages. The Duke of York formally proposed for her hand on Wednesday. It is expected that the marriage will bo celebrated in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace or in Westminster; Abbey. London, May 6. The Agents-General for the colonies have unitedly sent a message to the Prince Df Wales congratulating him and the family on the engagement of the Duke of York to Princess May. The London Corporation have sent a' similar messat e and voted the sum of L 2500 as awedding present,
London, May 8. Princess May's trousseau will be made entirely of English and Irish materials. (SPECIAL.) London, May 5. The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Teck are being deluged with congratulations on the engagement of the Duke of York and Princess May. The Navy is enthusiastic at the betrothal,
