The appointment of Father Martini, a Spaniard, and private secretary to the late General of the Jesuits, as Vicar of the Jesuits, was in accordance with the last wishes of Father Anderledi. The nominanation of a ocmparitively young man, Father Martini being only 45, and who was not called by his position to fill so important aa office, has occasioned great sm prise in the Order. It is not probable, however, that the Order will name Father Martini General. Tho little Queen of Holland has an English governess, who recently set her to draw a map of Europe as a punishment for some misb'haviour on her part. The fit’ls Q ieen had hor revenge on her English instructress by making the British Isles appear on the map only about haltythe size of the Netherlands.
