SAD ACCIDENT TO A BOY.

The District Coroner, Mr 11. VV. Robinson, held an inquest at ihe morgue on Tuesday afternoon on the body of a. boy named Walter Allen, whose death occurred un !er the following circumstances :—The father of the deceased was taking him from Tinakori road to his home in Grainger street on Monday afternoon. As the boy was partially paralysed on the left side, his father was lifting him to the back seat of a ’bus, and a gentleman gave him his hand and helped him in. The ’bus, however, unexpectedly moved on, and Mr Allen, with the hoy in his arms, fell. In falling the boy’s head must have got a blow, although the father did not notice it at the time, which inflicted a slight bruise over the right temple. The boy was rendered unconscious, but, the ’bus having once more stopped, he was put on it and taken home. He never recovered consciousness, however, but evidently suffered greatly during the night, moaning and groaning inarticulately. Mr Allen watched by his son the greater part of the night, but as the boy seemed to slumber about 4 a.m. his father lay down and went to sleep. He awoke again about 5.30, and after an interval, seeing that his son did not move, lie sent for Dr Pollen, who on arriving, said he had been dead for about an hour. Dr Pollen subsequently made a post-mortem examination of the body, from which it appeared that there was a hydatid tumour in the brain, which had burst, and that the fluid'had been extravasated on the brain. This had occasioned ferous apoplexy, which was, the doctor said, the cause of death. The jury, of which Mr Hickie was foreman, returned a lengthy verdict, embodying the evidence of the father of the deceased and Dr Pollen, and added a rider to the effect that it was advisable that special care should be taken in the stopping of public vehicles so as to allow passengers to sef 9ff ana on
