THE POLICY OF THE RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS.

(press association.) Auckland. May 30. Mr McKerrow, Chief Commissioner of Railways, remains in Auckland for a week. At an interview he said it was the steady policy of the Ra'lway Commissioners to encourage the productive resources of tho oountry. The railway traffio was steadily improving throughout the Colony, and the revenue was iucreasirg gradually and steadily. The defeotiva harvest a year ago in tho South caused a large shrinkage in the amount of grain carried, and affected the receipts materially last year, but in all other departments, especially the passenger traffic, the increase was very marked. For the current year, Mr McKerrow says the grain traffic will assume its former dimensions at least. The Commissioners anticipate a very good year. The passenger traffic last year was the largest ever recorded in the Colony. These results Mr McKerrow attributes to the general feelinz of returned prosperity throughout the Colony, but chiefly in the country districts.
