EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly moeting of the Education Board was held yesterday week, there being prisont— Means J. R. Blair (ChairF. 11. Fraser, W. A. Fitzhorbart. W. W. MoCardle, G. Boetham, and Dr Newman, M H. R. The pay sheat amounted to £2513 2s sd. The application of G. Pope to withdraw his resignation was not acceded to. The resignations of Mi-s O Payne (Peat’neraton), Mis 3 L Batb (Ekatahuna), and Mis 3 R. McGill (C'arevil'.e) were received and aeoepttd. Correspondence was road in connection with the alleged illegal election of tho I’aroparaumu Commit!ee. Tne Board decided that there was nob sufficient evidence to warrant them in ordering another election. It was decided to allow Miss Yorke (Groytown), who is on leave, a month’s salar}'. A griut of £5 was made to the Cro3o Creek Committee, and of £6 15 s to the Kaituna Committee. A grant of £ls was also male for the erection of a shelter shed at Ohau. The carpenter was instructed to report on an application for an i nlargemenfc of the teaches’* resiles?3
Dr Newman withdrew his proposed motion to the effect that cookery should be taught in the public schools, explaining that he would bring the subject up when the Technical Education Bill was before the House of Representatives. A communication from the Education Department asking for certain information in connection with the Rill was referred to the Technical School Committee for a report, which will be discussed at the next mooting of the Board. It was decided that Mr Benzie, contractor for the erection of the Makakahi school, should receive notice that if he did not commence the work within a fortnight that his deposit will be forfeited and fresh tenders called for. Assistant teachers were appointed for the Fernridge, Pahiatua, Featherston and Eketahuna schools, but the names will not be published until the local committees have approved of the appointments. Tenders for the erection of schools at Makara and Stokes Valley were opened and the lowest accepted in each case. The reports of the inspectors on several of the country schools were considered in committee.
