LAND BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Land Board waa held on Thursday morning. Present— Messrs J. H. Baker (Chief Commissioner), W. H. McCardlo, W. A. Fitzherbert, T. VY. Fisher, and A. W. Hogg, M.H.R The following applications to obtain titles were approved :— Apiti—J. F. Harris, B. Wrightson, F. E. Allen, I'. Waugh, VV. H. Beach ; Tiriraukawa—R. Scaudlyn ; Mali uri—J. Lauko, W. P. Foreman ; Mangahao —S. Avery, J. Miller, J. J. Cody, H. Croad, W. E. Barnett ; Mangaoue—E. Goodban. The Crown Lands Ranger reported oa the improvements effected byMessrsT. R., E. J. and W. E. Chamberlain, on Sections 64 to 68, Block XIII., Apiti, for which an application had been made to obtain titles. Tae Board decided to issue titles to Sections 64 to 6S, but not to the others until the required improvements are effected. Mr M. G. Porter applied for permission to transfer Seotiona 42, Block I. and XII., Mount Cerberus, to Mrs Porter. To ba approved of oa a proper application being put in. Applications to obtain titles were refusefd in the following cases, as the conditions of the Act had not been complied with : Apiti— O. Caldwell, E. Irwin, C. London, junr. ; Mangahao—J. Harding; Mangaone —J. Thomaseu. The following applications to obtain titles were approved of, provided the conditions of the Act were complied with :—J. M. Mnnro, Bunnythorpe ; J. O’Brien, Mikuri : H. Macey, Mangahao. It waa resolved to grant Mr C. H. Hamilton permission to reside on the adjoining land to his, Section 5, Block XYL, Mangahao, and approve his applicat’on to he allowed to obtain the title to the same. Applications to capitalise were approved as follow :—Apiti—H. A. F. and G. L. Sixtus, F. E. Allen, T. Waugh, P. Nesda!e ; Tiriraukawa—R. Scaudlyn ; Makuri —J. Lauko, W. P. Foreman'; Mangahao— S. Avery, H. Croad, W. E. Barnett, J. E. Gilby, T. and W. Gilbert; Mangaone—E. L, Mowbray ; Bunnythorpe Viilago Settlement —J. M. Munro The following applications to transfer wero not approved, as the conditions of the Act bad not been complied with : —R Bannister, Mikimiki ; E. J. Haycock, Apiti; W. J. Richmond, Puketoi ; R. Cle’.and, Mangaone ; A. Cooper, Mangahao. It was resolved to issue a new licor.se to Mr A. Cooper for Section 17, Block X , Maugahao, oa payment of a fee of 10$ 6d ami
upon hia making the usual declaration that the original was lost. It was decided to offer the Stock Reserve, Section 38, JELunturville, V.S., for lease at auction under the Public Reserves Act for a term of 14 yearß, at an npset rental of 10s per annum. Mr H. Mackay’s application for Section 12, Blocks I. and IV., Kaiwhata, waß approved. The Commissioner submitted proposals for dealing with Section 1, Block I, Omahim, and Sections 3 and 4, Block V., Momahaki, all of which have not yet been offered for selection. It was decided to offer Sections I and 4 at £1 per acre, and Section 3 at 15s per acre. With reference to Mr F. G. Moore’s application for reconsideration of the cancellation of Sectiou 4, Block XIII., Makuri, a report was received from the Ranger on the Improvements effected. The Board decided not to rescind the cancellation, g.but to weight the section with the estimated value of the improvements. The Ranger reported on the improvements effected on Mr D. McKnight’s Sec* 18. Black IV., Apitl. Mr A. Campbell appeared on behalf of Mr A. R. Bowdeaweli, and asked that a further period of one month be given within which to effect the improvements. The Board decided to cancel Mr McKnight’s interest in the section.
Mr Touby appeared before the Board with reference to the alleged timber cutting on Crown lands at Makuri by Mr Sinclair. The matter was left' in the hands of ths Commissioner to deal with after the R*nger reports on the oircumstances of the case. Mr D. Hutchen waited on the Board, and asked that the cancellation of Mr McGrath’s interest in Section 1, Block 1., Puketoi, be re-considered. The Board declined to hear Mr Hutchen, as the case had already been dealt with.
The following applications to transfer were approved provided the Commissioner is satisfied that the conditions of the act are complied with : —Tiriraukawa, J. A. Beach to himself and G. H. Wilson ; Maungakaretu, T. Harper to J. C. B. Harper ; Pohangina, C. Brown to P. Kerrigan ; Apiti, J. M. Purcell to J. Stent, B. A. Miller to F. A. Miller, J. R. White to G. P. Church, W. K. Fawcett to A. Moss, M. F. Graney to E. G. McDermott ; Ongo, J. H„ A. Brock to A. R. Cox, B. Meads to O. D. Parker ; Mangahao, W. F. Howlett to L. M. Monckton, L. W. Hall to A. Sandel, R. A. McKenzie to F. King, C. W. Roberts to J. Stokes, M. A. Grant to J. McQuilkin, J. Quarterman (deceased) to M. A. Quarterman ; Mangaone, W. J. and P. J. Arnaboldi to H. A. Lambert ; Levin Village Settlement, J. Barnes to J. Arous, Mr E. B. Brown appeared on behalf of Mr F. T. Horner, and applied for permission to transfer Section 4, Block XIV., Makuri, to Mr W. Freeman. The Board decided to grant the application, provided the Commissioner is satisfied that the conditions of the Aot are complied with. The Commissioner reported that at the' late sale of the Waimarino Block Mrs O. McLarin and Mr G. Mari had both applied for the land on which the latter had effeotad improvements, and in the ballot Mrs MoLarin had drawn the choice of selection. The Board decided that if it was possible to do so to allow Mrs MoLarin to select the adjoining land, and leave Mr Mari undisturbed. An application by Mrs A. Burling for 1380 acres of second class land in the South Puketoi Block was considered and approved. Mr G. F. Manson, who had applied for permission to eroct an accommodation house in the Makotuku Township Reserve, forwarded a sketch of the proposed building, and it was resolved to offer the towni hi;j seutious for oa'e as soon as possible, when he can purchase o io and build on it. This concluded the ordinary business.
