MR G. FISHER AND BIS CONSTITUENTS.
Sir, —I see that Mr George Fisher has been making certain statements in one of the Dunedin papers. Is it a case of the floating straw indicating the course of the current? and that our George is going to st ek pastures new ? Objection has been taken in certain quarters that members of the Ministry address too many meetings ; but, as Ministers of the Crown, they repre sent the Colony g-nerally, and in that capacity they are simply addressing their constituents, who are the people of New Zealand. That their actions are above-board is evidenced by the fact that they nover lose an opportunity of placing themselves in the weighbridge of political opinion—namely, the hands of the electors. It is when our actions are inconsistent, when every step of the political ladder by which we rose to power has been swept away, when other id-ashave outweighed our political pledges, that we tremble at the thought of that institution, the political weighbridge. The consistent man courts enquiry ; the »'ncon. Eistent, knowing the result, evades it until he can do so no longer, when the floating straw begins to whisper, “ Pastures new for me.” Thanking you in anticipation, —I am, &c , Elector. Wellington.
