A very enjoyable hour was spent in the Courtenay place Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon in the service known as the ‘ Pleasant Sunday Afternoons.’ The Rev Mr Powell presided, and desired tho-e who attended to make it known that tlie object of the ‘ P.S.A.’ was to bring together those who attended no place of worship. Sankey’s hymns were sung, a capital reading was given by Mr W. J. Weston, and Mr C. J. Ellison gave a sacred solo in his well-known style. The address next Sunday will be given by Mr Coltman.
The Gospel meetings held at the Petone Oddfellows’ Hall, by members of the Church of Christ, are increasing in interest. On. Sunday a good audience was present to hear an address on the 1 Philosophy of the Atonement.’ A feature of these meetings is the excellent singing of the choir. •Land Nationalisation in Egypt’ was discussed at St John’s Fellowship Association on Sunday morning. Mr W. Simm, who opened, in an able manner explained and defended the land policy of Joseph, and recommended the adoption of the single tax in New Zealand. His views met with a considerable amount of support. On Sunday the ceremonies at St. Joseph’s Church, Buckle street, were of an imposing nature. After 9.50 a.m. Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament commenced and continued until vespers. At vespers there was a very large congregation who enjoyed the privilege of hearing special music provided by the Rev Father Braxmeier and his choir of college students. The celebrant was Rev Father Lewis. Before Benediction a procession of the Blessed Sacrament marched through the church and back to the sanctuary, which had been beautifully decorated. The members of the Hibernian Society, attired in the regalia of their order, together with other confraternities, took part in the procession.
