Bowling.
There was no bowling on Saturday, greatly to the disappointment of many members of the Bowling Club, who made their way up to the green only to find that it was in too sodden a condition to admit of play. The final bowling match at New Plymouth between Messrs Paul and Morey for the challenge cup has excited a great deal of interest in bowling circles, chiefly on account of Mr Paul’s great reputation. The finish was a very close one. At the 26th head the game was 20 all, and all the players on the green suspended play to see the final head between Morey and Paul. The latter had decidedly the advantage and was lying the shot when Morey played his last bowl. The excitement was great, as Morey had a very difficult shot before him, but he proved equal to the occasion, and drew tho shot with a ‘ toucher,’ amidst loud applause. The result was : Morey, 21; Paul, 20.
