HARBOUR WORKS.
(press association.) Invercargill, May 19. The Bluff Harbour Board to-day resolved upon the further extension of the wharf by 160 ft, and also decided to obtain plans and specifications for a slip way suitable to the requirements of the harbour. In the course of the discussion some of the members advocated tbe construction of a dock, but the majority considered that the expense would be too heavy iu the meantime. The Hon J. G. Ward mentioned that the revenue of. the Board was £15,009 per annum, and tha expenditure, including interest on loan, £6OOO, leaving £9OOO annually available for harbour improvements. Timaru, May 19. The Harbour Board yesterday decided to send Horae for alternative tenders, and also invite them in the Colony, for a suction and grab dredge, and for such dredge and a tug combined. Their reasons are that large carrying power is necessary if the shingle has to be shifted, and stronger dredging power is required in the harbour, and as to the combination, a separate tug entails a loss of £2OOO a year.
