LABOUR STRUGGLES.
By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (press association.) London, May JO. The Durham strikers have declined to accept a reduction of 13£ per cent in wages, and have resolved to continue the struggle. London, May 20. Mr Gladstone has asked Ml - Shipton for the details of his eight hours proposals. London, May 23. The masters have rejected the Durham miners offer to accept 10 per cent reduction. Paris, May 23. A labour exchange has been opened in Paris. It will be administered by the Trades Unions. (SPECIAL.) London, May 20. The Cardiff mine owners, are reducing wages. The strikes of seamen, firemen, and pottery hands are settled. London, May 22. The Durham miners are largely in favour of aooepting the 18 per cent, reduction. Mr John Morley considers it would be a ! bad example, and would lead to mischievous i results, If the State interfered with adult I male labour.
Sir John Gorst hopes that tho Labour Party will not demand excessive pledges from candidates. It would have a most mischievous effect to assume that capital is inimical to labour.
