FAMILY JARS.

(PRICSS ASSOCIATION.) JNjew Plymouth, January 11. Horace Victor Metcalfe appeared before the Resident Magistrate this morning under arrest, charged with failing to support his wife and child, who are in Wellington. The Magistrate said it must be an extreme case for the Resident Magistrate to issue a warrant to arrest a man resident in the country. Insuector Pardy said Metcalfe had been arrested on instructions from Wellington, and on his agreeing to the case being adjourned for a week he had wired to Wellington about it, but had learnt the solicitors of the complainant were out of town, and until then returned no definite answer could be got. The solicitor for the defendant said as no one had appeared against Metcalfe he might have asked for a dismissal of the case at once, but his client wished the whole matter to be ventilated in open Court. He further stated Metcalfe had offered a home to his wife, who had left him and gone to Wellington. The case was adjourned for a week.
