Mr J. D. Fitzgerald, treasurer of the Bicycle Touring Club, Christchurch, who passed through Wellington on Monday, in* formed us that a gentleman of the Oatbe dral city, who takes a keen interest in cycling, ha 3 offered a liberal cash prize for a ladies’ race, which is lo be competed for at an early date. The privileges in connection with the annual sports gathering of the Caledonian Society on New Year’s Day were sold at auction on Tuesday by Mr T. K. Macdonald, and realised the following prices Grand stand bar and luncheon room. Mrs Manson, Kaiwarra, £ls; two publicans’ booths (outside), Mrs Ormsbee, £lO each ; two refreshment booths (outside), Mr J. Robinson, £5 each. The right of sports and cards were disposed of privately after the sale. The secretary of the Porirua Athletic Club, Mr A. H. Bennie, has received 61 entries for the Club’s sports, which are to bn held at Porirua on Boxing Day. Of these entries 22 are for the Porirua Handicap. Tho Pahautanui brass band has been engaged for the occasion, and no effort is being soared by the Committee to ensure a successful gathering at this favourite pleasure ground.
