FORESTERS' ANNUAL DISTRICT MEETING.
The annual district meeting of the Wellington District Order of Foresters was opened yesterday w ek. Twenty two delegates were present, aud Bro J. Leadbeater, District Chief Raugei', presided. The report of the district officers showed that most o: the Courts were increasing, and that the total amount of Court funds was £29,016 6s. The J uvenile Courts had accumulated £322 6s 4d. The District Funeral Fund, after payment of claims to the extent of £370, showed r. net increase of £337 4s 2d. There w re now in the district 25 Courts, with 2260 members, a net increase of 126 since last report. An important alteration iu tho lav. s proposed by the Executive was agreed to as follows : —“Any Court in this district may place on the surgeon’s list any financial member of Friendly Society of which there is no branch within a radius of five miles, on payment of tho surgeon fee in advance. Mr G. W. Leslie was appointed valuer for the purpose of the quinquennial valuation. It was resolved to send a letter of condolence to the widow of the late Bro A. V. Knapp. Wellington was decided upon as the place where the next annual Lhtrict Meeting should be held. An instruction was given to the incoming District Exeeu’ive to formulate a scheme for the establishment of a Widow and Orphans’ Fund. In the evening the delegates were entertiined at a smoke concert, which was held in the Foresters’ Hall, Tory street. Iho chair was occupied by Bro Mills, D.C.R., and the vice chair by Bro Dob3on, and a most enjoyable evening \v»3 spent. After I the refreshments had been done good justice to the usual loyal and patriotic toasts were duly honoured. The following is the list of toasts which were proposed and responded to :—“ The Parliament of New Zealand,” proposed by Bro Seider, respomled to by Mr G. Fisher, M.H.R. .“The ■ Wellington District,” proposed by Bro. Worth, responded to by Bro?. Leadbeater and Birch. “ The Delegates,” proposed by Bro Robertsia end responded 4o by Bro. Sfeet. “The District Trustees,” proposed by Bro. Hutchinson. ‘ The City Couit*,” propose 1 by Bro. Htace anil responded t> hy Bros. SUinncr, Weber, Dub3on, and <J. e. The remainder of the toasts were “Kindred Societies,’ ‘‘due Caterer,” “ The Indies,’’ and “ Cress.” A word of praise is due io the caterer, Bro. L. .Mortis, of Adelaida real.
