(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, November 23, At the Supreme Court this morning, JohD Bassett, charged with attempting to commit suicide by banging, pleaded guilty. In reply to tho usual questions he said he was losing his eyesight and getting old, and did □ot know what he bad better do. The Crown Proseoutor said the prisoner had boen in the colony thirty years, and bore an unblemished character,. He got behind with the world, became despondent, and attempted to commit the lash act. Communication had been received from the Charitable Aid Department stating that they would look after him and get him Into the Old Men’s Home. The prisoner was bound over in his own reeognisanco of £SO to come up for judgment when called on, arrangements to be made as stated.
