VILLAGE SETTLEMENT SECTIONS.
AN IMPORTANT POINT. The announcement by advertisement by the Deputy Official Assignee, that be would soil the interest of a bankrupt village settler at Mangatainoko, on Saturday last, was naturally the cause of considerable comment —and excitement—to the village settlers as a whole; besides being a question of great interest to business people who have dealings with the village settlers. As the section in question is situate opposite the proposed Mangatainoko railway station it will, in tha near future be of considerable value, and the question, whether the insolvent’s interest in the section was an available asset, and whether the said asset could be converted into Her Majesty’s coin of the realm, for the benefit of the creditors, has been freely debated in the Pahiatua district for the past few weeks. All doubts on the subject were, however, set at rest shortly before the hour fixed for the sale, by a telegram from the bankruptcy officer, withdrawing the section from sale. While few will regret that the unfortunate debtor has thus had his home preserved to him, it is a point that should be at once settled in the interests of the section holders and their creditors alike.
