(press association.) Auckland, Ootobsr 14. At the request of several citizens Mr W. Crowtber, the oldest member of the City Council, has consented to be nominated for the office of Mayor. One of the Railway Commissioners, Mr Maxwell, who arrived from Wellington yesterday, has gone to the Waikato district The object of his visit is an inspection of the line and an enquiry into the manage ment and working of the railways, in the district. He professed astonishment at the unanimity of Auckland in favour of the Stratford route for the trunk line, and says that personally he is in favour cf the central line; At a meeting to day of the creditors oi Mrs Ann Robertson, who baa become a bankrupt, it was stated that a claim which Mis Robertson has preferred against tho Government for some years past in respect of certain laud at Rotorua, cf which she has been dispossessed, was likely to be recognised by the payment of £3OO and the return of the land. The Official Assignee was instructed to apply to the Gover; meat fa the money rec-ommendod by Parliament to bo paid to bankrupt, and that one-sixth of the total amount be allowed to Mrs Robertson, together with any land that may be given. The shareholders of the Prospectors No. 1 Mine, Puhipuhi, have received an offer from Melbourne capitalists for the reforming of the Company with added capital. They are to meet to consider the offer.
